Double Punch Tuesday

Help! I believe I'm addicted. To coffee, that is. I try my best to not stop and get my 20 oz. fix every day, but it's double punch Tuesday and when I drive by that stand my body takes over and my hands jerk the steering wheel right in. I wake up in the morning and desire that moment when it touches my lips and fills my body with warmth. It's like it enters my veins and gets the motivation circulating in my body. I hate to compare it to something so terrible without any first hand experience to empathize with it, but I think it is similar to a drug addiction. My body doesn't feel right until I get my fix. I mean, there are worse addictions right? But it isn't the cheapest one. I mean my $5 cup of coffee is like a pack of cigarettes, cost wise anyway.

I look around and I see all of my fellow gang members with their coffee cups and stacks of homework to grade. I think I am beginning to figure it out. We can't deal with these children without our coffee. I think back on my young schooling days and I remember my teachers having mugs at their desks every day also. Who started this frenzy? Who is responsible for this epidemic of coffee consumption? Probably the same person that started the Starbucks franchise. Whoever you are, thank you. I don't know what I would have done without you.

  1. Don't feel bad Dalton, we are all in the same boat. I drink an entire pot of coffee in the morning, black needless to say. It doesn't stop there, once I hit LaGrande Dutch Brothers called my name for another round. Ugh. We will all have to get two jobs to pay for our habit.

  3. I do this too!! Ahhh! It takes everything I have not to go to Sorbenots every single day. My family and friends even got me gift cards for the holidays, which only fuels my addiction. I love how you wrote about this, though! :)

  4. Great writing piece! I can't even tell you how many times I've tried and failed to give up buying coffee. There's just something so much better when someone else prepares coffee for me rather then me preparing it myself.

  5. My life would be unbearable without my venti chai twice a day - yes, thank you Starbucks!

  6. I think most people will understand!! I have gotten to the point where I tell myself 2 or 3 coffees only this week…Choose your day wisely Jenny. I've cut down a lot, but it's a bad habit and one I will probably not get rid of but can control! :) Good story!!

  7. I'm so addicted to coffee, too. Sometimes, on the way home from work (especially now...in Chicago....in the midst of the 'polar vortex') I stop at Dunkin and get another coffee. shhhh!! dont' tell! I hear ya on the double punch!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today! Cool that you're starting one and just as you're about to begin your teaching career. I *wish* I had journaled or blogged during my first few years!
