The Super Bowl

There are many triumphs and, well, just slumps when being a fan of the Seahawks. I have been a fan all of my life and the last time that we made it to the Super Bowl I was in the 8th grade (roughly 8 years ago). At that time sports weren't as important to me and I cheered them on, but wasn't nearly as invested as I am now. From the time that Coach Pete Carroll took the club over four years ago I knew that this day was coming. He wrote a book about his philosophy when he came to the Seahawks and I grabbed it off the shelf and read it. His core philosophy is about competition and constantly striving to become the best not only athlete, but person that you can. I bought in immediately. I have shaped much of my coaching and life philosophy based on his principles. It is such a positive way to live your life and great way to start reaching your potential. Coach Carroll has completely gotten his guys to buy in and they have began to become the best version of themselves. We face a great challenge against the "high-powered offense" (as one the students in my sixth grade practicum told me) of Denver, but I am excited about being able to compete against the best team in the NFL. Go Hawks!

  2. Congratulations on choosing one of the best professions ~ teaching and coaching. My daughter is doing the same, only coaching basketball. Great teachers read and work at growing and improving. Your choice of reading that book and choosing to let it guide you says a lot about your character. Good luck with your schooling, blogging and your Super Bowl pick!

  3. Hi, I know how you feel. When the USC Gamecocks won the bowl against Wisconsin this year, I was just excited. Good luck. I don't follow the Super Bowl much, but I always watch for the commercials and half-time show.

  4. I just love the name of the team and I am glad for them. Thank you for giving me information about the coach....I love that he strives for this : His core philosophy is about competition and constantly striving to become the best not only athlete, but person that you can. This is the kind of person that we need as a role model. xo My husband coached 3 seasons for many years...coaches matter! Going for the Broncos however...love their colors and quarterback

  5. That's really neat. I'm not much of a sports fan, but I know some facts about the sports world in general and last Sunday was the first time I actually sat and watched an entire game (with the exception of high school football) and I actually enjoyed it. It's great that Pete seems to be not just a coach, but a mentor; a leader for his team to look up to.

  6. That was a great game, although I was still in mourning for my Patriots (who absolutely did not have their game together).

  7. I'm not a football fan (though my husband is a big Giants fan) so I'm not really into the Super Bowl this year. Therefore, I can wish your Seahawks well. (NOTE: I am a Yankees fan. 'Nuff said!)

  9. So glad you shared your slice! I have a lot of students who are blogging about the Sea Hawks. They have all taken up the cause. I love how you share Coach Carroll's philosophy with your 6th graders. In my opinion great coaches are great teachers. It's all about the buy in. Go Sea Hawks!

  10. Since I'm from Denver… But, so glad we're playing the Seahawks. I think we have two great coaches who coach well, and don't have tantrums! I've somehow watched Pete Carroll from the 'outside' and think he's great-I imagine his book is very good! Go Broncos!

  11. This is was a great game to watch. I must admit that over the football season I have found myself complaining about watching football all the time. However, I have became a fan of the Seahawks in the last few years as this is one of the teams Corey is invested and I can always take the time to root them on with family friends, and not be annoyed (: You talked about buy in and that is exactly what you need from players and your students, if they don't buy in to what you are teaching them, they will never be the best they can be. Go hawks. I will look forward to the next game.
